An Update from SED Vice President on Special Projects, Gemila Washington

We are one day away from the liasion deadline for the Focus on Five Campaign. Again, if you do not have a liasion in place by October 30, you WILL NOT be able to participate in the campaign for the 2016-2017 year. Liasions, you MUST introduce yourself in the group to receive credit. Right now we only have 24 of our chapters participating out of 41 (listed below). I would love to see more participate this year. As usual, MLITB, let’s get to work SED!!

National Convention News!

Hey SED,

I am very pleased to present to you the TBS SED 2013 Guide to National Convention, part 1. In this guidebook, you will find information such as travel plans, TBS business methods, and even plans for SED Communication at NatCon!

As you can see from the title, this is only part 1. Part 2 will be released approximately 2 weeks before convention with information like specific workshops to look for, who to meet, further SED communication methods, and the completed finalized schedule!

If you are still debating with yourself whether the financial obligation and trip is a possibility I encourage you to look up EVERY way of travel to see which is in your price range… travel by plane, train, or car! Share the load with friends from your chapter, school, or district! Also, don’t forget, you can register all the way up until the event– however the earlier you register, the more informed you will be on NatCon announcements! And lastly, hotel… the convention rate is only available until THIS FRIDAY, June 21st! So even if you aren’t sure yet, think about booking a hotel and deciding later, their cancellation policy is good up until the day you check in!

As always, let me know if you have any questions, concerns, or thoughts about anything I have mentioned! I cannot wait for the SED to SHOW UP AND SHOW OUT in Springfield!

SED T-Shirt Competition Winner

Hello Sisters of the SED!

I am proud to reveal the winning design from the 2013 SED T-Shirt competition! The winning design was submitted by the Alpha Omega chapter, at THE Florida State University! Deciding the winner was a very difficult task,  as all the submissions we received were awesome! However, to the submissions not chosen this time, there will be another competition in the Spring, before SED Convention and I strongly encourage everyone to reapply in the future! 🙂

Our goal was to provide a unifying design for the entire district, but also a shirt that SED sisters can wear at NatCon for District Day. For those of you who have not been to National Convention before, each day is themed. One of the days, District Day, is a competition of District Spirit– what a better way for the SED to show its “Strength, Excellence, and Diversity” than with new shirts!

Very soon you will be able to purchase them straight from our lovely website, and they will be shipped to you, or given to you if you’re going to NatCon. The only thing we ask is that you please be patient while we finalize our soon to be Merchandise page. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or requests, please feel free to contact me at sedtreasurer@tbsigma.org.

MLITB,
Sal

5 for 5/15

Dear Southeast District,

Here are the 5 important things to know on May 15. 2013.

1. THE 2014 SED CONVENTION DATES ARE HEREEEEE!

I am proud to announce that the 2014 Southeast District Convention will be hosted at the Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) in ATL, GA the weekend of March 21-23, 2014. As more convention resources become available (i.e. website for registration), we will relay that information to you. Please help me in congratulating the Epsilon Theta chapter of Tau Beta Sigma and the Iota chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi for their hard work and dedication so far!

2. WANT TO GET A SWEET TAN, how about working on it at FLORIDA DAY?!

There are several ITB events happening this summer. Beginning with a fun filled, sun filled weekend in Orlando, FL. Florida Day, hosted by the Zeta Psi chapter of Tau Beta Sigma and the Eta Sigma chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, is a social event held on the University of Central Florida campus every year. The best part about Florida Day is you do NOT have to be a member of a FL chapter to tan at their pool! I hope you will consider traveling down to Orlando NEXT WEEKEND, May 24-26&, as we celebrate the bond with some rays and good food.

3. CHAPTER SUMMARY REPORTS ARE DUE JUNE 1st

The Chapter Summary Report is National HQ’s way of reading about your individual chapters and celebrating their diversity! Do not forget when submitting this paperwork, the actual form needs to be submitted by June 1st, but your Director of Bands AND your Chapter Sponsor must also approve it by June 1st for it to be considered on time!

4. National Convention Travel

This year, your SED Joint Councils wants to facilitate NatCon travel to as many SED members as possible. To do this, we have devised the SED Takeover NatCon trip. This trip, beginning in Tallahassee, FL, will stop in Birmingham, AL; ATL, GA; and Charlotte, NC; before continuing on to Convention in Springfield, MA. The total cost of the trip is $425, however not only do you get a way there and back, you also get HOTEL while at convention! If you are interested in this trip, please contact me (sedpres@tbsigma.org) AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! We are currently trying to determine whether there is enough interest to make this trip possible. Please reach out and let us know if you are interested!

5. TBS SED Applications due THIS FRIDAY, May 17th!

There are 2 applications for TBS SED due on May 17th, 2013. One is the T-shirt competition application/design and the other is the Appointed Position Applications! If you are interested in applying for either of these great opportunities, please contact me (sedpres@tbsigma.org) or Sal (sedtreasurer@tbsigma.org) ASAP.

Congratulations, recent graduates and initiates! And congratulations to those of you who managed to survive another year of school and life ITB!

I hope to see you all this summer at the various ITB activities. As always, if you have questions about anything, let me know! Happy Wednesday/Thursday!

Founder’s Day

I cannot express into words how much Tau Beta Sigma has meant to me.
